This is the second of a series of photographs of artists I know who live and work in the San Francisco Bay Area. Michelle Fillmore is an up-and-coming photorealistic painter who works in a downstairs studio at our home. She was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada; her paintings reflect the culture of her home city and the challenges of growing up there. She describes her paintings as “autobiographical metaphors…Each painting is a celebration of a person’s ability to liberate themself from their own prison, as well as the ability to change and transform.” It’s a delight to have Michelle working close by.
